A router allows multiple machines to share the internetbrandwith, and will also allow a fast connection within theLAN.

There are scenarios where you would rather use a modem,eg.:
- You easily want to connect a single machine to theinternet.
- You are using a DFL or DI product and you need a public IPaddress on the WAN port.
