How do I configure my DIR-505 to work as a wireless extender?

Step 1: Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to the DIR-505 by Wi-Fi. Open your web browser and enter http://dlinkrouter or http://dlinkrouter.local into the address bar.



Step 2: At the login page, enter the Admin password. If you have not changed the administrator password from the default, leave the field blank. Click Log In.




Step 3: Move the cursor to the Setup tab at the top of the page and then click Wi-Fi Setup from the menu on the left-hand side.

Step 4: Under the Wi-Fi Network Settings section, click the Site Survey button to search for available wireless networks which can be extended.

Step 5: A list of available networks will be displayed. Select the desired uplink wireless network by clicking the radio button next to the network under the Select column. Click Continue to select this network and return to the configuration page.

Step 6: The name of the selected network will be automatically displayed in the Wi-Fi Network Name field. Next, select the type of wireless encryption used by the network you are trying to connect to from the Security Mode drop-down menu. Enter the password for the uplink wireless network in the Pre-Shared Key field. Click Save Settings to save the current configuration.

Step 7: Click Setup at the top of the page, then click Extended Wi-Fi Setup from the menu on the left-hand side.

Step 8: If you want the extended wireless network to have the same network name (SSID) and password as the uplink network, select the Same as Wi-Fi Network Name, which is displayed above next to Wi-Fi Network Name.

If you want to specify different settings for the extended network, select the Create a new Wi-Fi Network Name radio button. Next, enter the desired network name in the field provided and specify additional settings such as the Channel Width and Visibility Status. You will also need select a wireless security method from the Security Mode drop-down menu, and enter the desired wireless password in the Pre-Shared Key field.

Click Save Settings to save the current configuration.
