I cannot find my DNS-323 on the network using the Easy Search Utility. Is my DNS-323 broken?
A common reason for the Easy Search Utility not being able to detect a DNS-323 device on the network is due to a particular setting in Windows. Note: the instructions below refer to Windows XP. The same settings can be applied to Windows 2000 and Windows Vista, however the screens may differ from the screenshots below
To change this setting, you will need to go to the Windows Control Panel and find Network Connections.
This will show you a list of all the network adapters installed in your PC. You will need to edit the properties of the one you use to connect to the DNS-323, usually called Local Area Connection if you are using a cable, or the Wireless LAN connection if you are connecting to it wirelessly, e.g. via a wireless router.
To access the properties, right-click on the icon and select Properties, then double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) entry in the list of items in the middle of that window.
Click on the Advanced button at the bottom of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)Properties to see the Advanced TCP/IP Properties.
On the WINS tab of that page, ensure that NetBIOS settings is set to either Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP or Default.
It should not be necessary to restart your computer after changing these settings. The next time you run the Easy Search Utility, the software should detect theDNS-323.
