Always on internet connectivity – 4G LTE and failover solutions

Do you have a plan if your fixed internet or mobile broadband connectivity goes down? Read our latest blog to find how to get on the Internet when your broadband goes down or stay online during a power outage - Stay connected, anywhere, anytime

How much do you and your business rely on the internet?

From small businesses to enterprises, internet access is essential. You probably take your business or home wifi adapter/router for granted. That little box works very hard for you transmitting endless data over invisible airwaves - allowing you to connect all your devices and enjoy the blessings of the Internet.

Your business internet connection gives you access to information, emails, communication apps, cloud files, social media, your VoIP phone system, video conferencing, credit card / electronic points of sale, you may need the internet to access finance apps and payroll systems.

There are a few pitfalls to our reliance on hard wired landlines and Wi-Fi. Many Wi-Fi home networks and offices based in densely populated areas suffer from wireless interference arising from the prevalence of 2.4 GHz consumer gadgets, like cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, microwave ovens, audio and video devices, where no doubt you notice the drop in performance as people use networks during peak times. It’s all fine until that internet connection is broken, Do you have a plan if the broadband dies? Or would you just send all your staff home?

Anyone who has worked from home, especially those with families can attest to the extra strain that the current situation has put on their home wireless networks. If you are working from home what is your contingency backup plan to remain connected to colleagues, customers and suppliers?

The trouble is whilst we may expect it, ISPs can’t guarantee your line will always work, problems such as line faults or cable damage can take time to fix. Start adding up the critical functions that require online connectivity, and you’ll get a clear picture of why your business needs backup internet connectivity. So, what do you do to ensure that all your devices are connected to high-speed internet – just as is the case in your home or in the office? Sadly, your mobile phone’s hotspot won’t cut it, (what if you need to take a phone call?), even if it's 4G enabled. The solution here is to use a 4G LTE router!

We have a solution

There are many benefits and reason to invest in a 4G LTE router

What is LTE?

Long Term Evolution or LTE, as it’s commonly called, refers to the 4G technology or 4th generation wireless broadband standard. It’s a communication standard for data terminals, mobile devices, and smartphones.

The LTE standard is a superior, high-speed, high-security wireless cellular network. Plus it’s highly reliable, provided that a good LTE signal is available. Thanks to its rapid connection and higher bandwidth, it’s especially recommended for heavy applications that rely on fast speeds. In fact it’s credited as being the fastest wireless technology for mobile devices and smart phones and for good reason.

Historically traditional hurdles that made this less than an ideal solution - data caps, expense, bandwidth, coverage, compatible hardware - have now become less of an issue as the technology has improved, and it's now very possible to switch completely from standard broadband to 4G LTE broadband.

The idea behind 4G LTE at home is pretty simple, to deliver internet access to your home in the same way that your phone gets online when it's away from Wi-Fi.

Using a 4G LTE home internet service isn't quite the same as running a mobile phone hot spot though. Instead of having everything come through your phone, you set up a router to speak directly to the 4G LTE network, and then that router converts the signal into the conventional Wi-Fi that we all know. You don't need SIM cards for every gadget you're connecting, because they just see your home Wi-Fi as normal.

Use in failover mode if your internet dies during an important call or use in load sharing mode to get a boost!

A safety net for your main broadband line - Don’t let your broadband failure keep you from staying online. Our 4G and 5G routers are built with mobile failover in mind, which means that when your fixed-line broadband service goes down, you stay connected to the internet through the router’s mobile connection. Ideal for homes and small offices, and essential online video meetings.

Plug and play - very simple and easy to install and use. You may need the internet when you move office or home – the 4G router will save waiting for broadband activation, and will provide more security than public coffee shops.

Share You High-Speed 4G Internet - Simply insert your 4G-enable SIM card to share high-speed mobile Internet connection with multiple devices via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cables.

High-Speed Connectivity - Enjoy combined Wi-Fi speeds of up to 1200 Mbps1 with dual-band wireless AC as well as Gigabit connection for wired devices

4G LTE can be faster than your home broadband - speed up your rural connection - 4G isn't just for on the go or as a backup - power your home.

Do More With Dual-Band - The Wireless AC1200 4G LTE Multi-WAN Router features dual-band AC1200 Wi-Fi, ensuring there's plenty of bandwidth for all of your home's devices. Like having two home networks, for example, connect older devices that require the legacy compatibility and greater signal reach to the 2.4 GHz band, leaving the higher bandwidth 5 GHz band free for high-speed, data hungry devices. The ability to use 5 GHz on a router avoids these problems because the technology supports 23 non-overlapping channels.

Create a separate network at home if kids are taking over your home with endless social media, tik tok, music, movie and game streaming or you need to set up a temporary at home office network.

D-Link 4G routers will take action the very moment the wi-fi or wired internet connection fails - switching you to 4G when you need it the most, allowing you to continue without disruption, easily connecting all your phones, tablets, and laptops to the internet from one single location. Better yet, knowing that you are using fast speed internet on a connection you can trust is fulfilling.

Security - understandably, when accessing the internet, dealing with confidential company and client information security is one of the primary concerns. Although no network can be 100 % secure, LTE cellular data is more secure than Wi-Fi.

Cellular data network service providers have strong incentives to protect users’ privacy and safeguard their data. This is because any mishap in the security could mean loss of reputation and business, even running the risk of huge financial losses.

Another factor that increases the vulnerability of Wi-Fi users is that it’s possible to create fake Wi-Fi networks to which consumers unsuspectingly connect, practically giving criminals a free virtual tour of their browsing activity, personal private information and passwords. In contrast, in the case of cellular networks, their enormous scale and size are huge deterrents for criminals to create imitations, eliminating the possibility of fake cellular networks.

Cellular network operators have dedicated cyber security resources that keep risks to a minimum.

Cellular data is encrypted by default, there is no room for error. On the other hand, when using Wi-Fi, you need to turn on and manage the encryption - missing this crucial step leaves many to cyber security threats and hacks, increasing consumers’ vulnerability to cyber risks. LTE security has therefore increased in its popularity with technological firms and IoT application developers.
